Odds are calculated based
on the two dice used in craps. As you know each dice has 6 numbers. With two dice there
are 11 different numbers (two through twelve) which can be rolled at any one time.
However, some numbers can come up more times than others. In fact, there are actually 36 different
combinations of those same 11 numbers which can be rolled!
Because of this inbalance, we can set up ODDS for certain numbers or combination of numbers to appear before
other numbers and combinations appear.
If this Sounds confusing?
Let me illustrate with the number MOST likely to appear on the Craps table when throwing the two dice: The number SEVEN.
Using two dice, how many ways can you roll a seven?

There are 5 ways to roll a six OR an eight!
Now that we have the number of possible ways these numbers come up, we can calculate some odds in terms
of the game of Craps!
Odds question #1:
What are the odds that I will roll a six BEFORE I roll a seven?
There are 6 ways to roll a seven.
There are 5 ways to roll a six.
Therefore the odds are 6 to 5 that I will roll a six before I roll a seven!
That was pretty simple??
For every five dollars bet, I will win six dollars EACH time I roll a six BEFORE I roll a seven.
The same calculation holds true for the eight.
In fact, when we calculate the odds for the other eight numbers, you will soon see that numbers are
linked to each other by how many ways you can roll them.
The link occurs around the number 7.
For each increment you go past seven plus
or minus, those numbers are linked in terms of how many ways you can
roll them in craps.
The way you can see this is by the
following table:
2
3

At the core
of the game of craps is the idea that you are betting that any one of these numbers will
appear before the seven.
Remember that it is only the CORE of the
game. The game itself is a little more involved. In order to fully understand craps you
should try to come up with odds for each of the number pairings listed
above.
Question #2:
What are the odds for each of the numbers listed being rolled BEFORE you roll a seven?
For 6 and 8 the odds are 6-5.
For 5 and 9 the odds are 6-4 or 3-2.
For 4 and 10 the odds are 6-3 or 2-1.
For 3 and 11 the odds are 6-2 or 3-1.
For 2 and 12 the odds are 6-1.
Can't get much easier.
Probabilities of a Crap Game!
Get to know these probabilities when you make your bets..
In the table below you find the probabilities for winning the different craps bets. Further more you find
the casino advantage which is your expected loss.
*A 12 only repays your bet (equal to a probability of 2.78%)!
Be especially aware of the bets where you bet on the same event but the odds differs (e.g. a buy bet on 4/10 and a place bet on 4/10)).
Here is a Good Tip:
If you combine the different bets it is not advisable to do it at the same time. Don't think that
you can cover by making both a Pass Line bet and a Any Craps bet.
Every roll is independent of the previous roll and the probablilities from the table above applies
for every single roll.
